SAN ANTONIO—The parents of an eight month-old boy are expecting a special delivery in the coming weeks. Months after the birth of their first son, Shontae Minor and Khristian Rohena discovered Shontae was pregnant again, this time with two sets of identical twin boys. The family will welcome quadruplets on January 31, to be delivered by Dr. Jessica Diaz with the Institute for Women’s Health.

Although twins run on both sides of their family, the multiple-birth pregnancy, achieved without fertility treatments, is considered a medical miracle. Despite early suggestions from doctors to abort one set of twins, Minor and Rohena have decided to proceed with the pregnancy. At this time, Minor is 29 weeks pregnant. Hoping to carry the quadruplets for as long as possible, Minor remains on bedrest at San Antonio’s St. Luke’s Hospital.
Rohena is a disabled Iraq War veteran, and the couple and their son currently live in a two-bedroom apartment. With the impending birth of four children, the family is in need of a helping hand. “[Minor] is going to have five little boys under the age of one all running around, so definitely a lot of family and community support will be needed,” says Rohena.
Viva Doulas has arranged a donation drive to aid the family. Viva Doulas is requesting contributions from the community in the form of clothing, baby care products, a breast pump, baby carriers and more.
Those wishing to contribute monetarily can do so at Wells Fargo for Shontae Minor.
